Moth Garden
- this artwork is one of a kind
Martha finds inspiration from stories found in myth and folklore about native plants, animals, and especially birds.
"It’s a fact that moths are indicators of a healthy environment and ecosystem. An area rich in moths and other insects will provide food for birds, bats and other insect eating animals. Moths are great pollinators especially active after dark when others aren’t so active. In Japanese culture, moths are viewed as spirits and it’s believed that when people die, their souls become moths or butterflies before traveling to the afterlife. Therefore, moths are never harmed.”
