The Protectors
- this artwork is one of a kind
Martha finds inspiration from stories found in myth and folklore about native plants, animals, and especially birds.
"There is an Iroquois legend that tells of the fox being tricked by the raccoon and having his eyes glued shut by pine sap. The fox begged the goldfinches (who were originally dark and bland in color) for help. The goldfinches came to the fox’s aid and when his eyes opened the fox saw the sun. In gratitude he painted his saviors a bright sunny yellow as they requested."
