Cheryl grew up in the country, collecting moss, bugs, leaves, snakes and salamanders. Her rural upbringing plays a large role in her aesthetic sensibility and artwork, with her mixed media pieces paying homage to nature's strength, beauty and diversity. She enjoys finding the perfect process for whatever the situation calls for, employing a variety of techniques such as emulating natural aging processes, embedding found materials, creating photo silkscreens and much more. For Cheryl, the symbolic implications of the methods and materials are as important as the imagery.
"I am always striving for equilibrium between spontaneity and deliberation. My hope is that the resulting work is a sensuous surface that reflects the process and balances the natural with the manmade." ~ Cheryl Holz, Aurora IL
