Born in Birmingham, England in 1972, Andrew Stephenson moved to the United States with his family in 1979. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Carolina University in 1996. After graduation Andrew held several pottery residencies and apprenticeships in Western NC. He continues the long tradition of creating traditionally-inspired, wood-fired and salt-glazed pottery. Making his own clay, using dry materials and some local red clay, Andrew incorporates brushwork designs as well as bits of imbedded glass to add visual interest to his functional pots. Andrew also shares his passion for clay by teaching pottery at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC and at John C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.
